This Privacy Policy explains how GoAppsters Private Limited (“GoAppsters”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the Kaal Jyoti mobile application (the “App”), a Vedic horoscope calculator. We built Kaal Jyoti to be private by default: your personal charts stay on your device unless you deliberately choose otherwise.
The short version. Kaal Jyoti works fully offline. The birth details and charts you create are stored, encrypted, on your own device. We do not sell your data or show you ads. Optional features — creating an account, cross-device sync, and the Mahakosh community — are the only ways information leaves your device, and each is opt-in.
1. Information we handle
To calculate a Kundali, the App uses the birth details you enter — typically a name or label, date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth (which is converted to coordinates and a time zone). This information is used solely to perform astrological and astronomical calculations on your device.
Crash reports. Official builds of the App send anonymous crash reports (a stack trace, app version, device model and OS version — never your charts, birth details, or identity) to an error-reporting service so we can find and fix bugs. Builds you compile yourself from the open-source code contain no crash reporting unless you configure it.
2. Data stored on your device
By default, everything you create in Kaal Jyoti — your kundalis, saved charts, dashboard layouts and app settings — is stored in encrypted storage on your own device. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else. If you uninstall the App without enabling sync, this data is removed with it.
When you look up a place of birth or use “current location”, the App may contact a location/geocoding service to turn a place name into coordinates and a time zone. This is used only to complete your calculation.
3. Accounts & sync (optional)
You can use Kaal Jyoti without ever creating an account. If you choose to create one — for example to sync charts across your devices — we process the sign-in information needed to authenticate you, such as your email address (via a one-time code) or, where available, sign-in through Google or Apple.
If you turn on sync for a kundali, a copy of that kundali is stored with our backend/hosting provider so it can be delivered to your other signed-in devices. It is protected in transit and by strict access controls — only your signed-in account can read it. Sync is off by default and is enabled per kundali, by you. You can turn it off, and you can delete synced data (see “Your choices & rights”).
Notifications. If you allow notifications, a push token identifying your device (not your identity) is stored so we can deliver alerts such as replies to your comments or updates on your research requests, via Apple's and Google's notification services. Signing out or revoking notification permission removes the token. For important moderation outcomes we may also email the address on your account.
4. Mahakosh community (optional)
Mahakosh is an opt-in research community built around consent. If — and only if — you choose to contribute a chart, it is shared in anonymized form (identified by a system-generated code, not your name), so the community can run pattern research and respond to research requests. Consent is captured explicitly, with separate branches for your own chart, a third party’s chart, and health-related information.
Please do not contribute a third party’s birth details to Mahakosh unless you are entitled to do so. You can decline to contribute at any time; contribution is never required to use the App’s calculator.
Discussions. If you comment on a community chart, your comment and the display name you choose are visible to signed-in members of the community. Comments are not shown with your email or real identity unless you choose a display name that reveals it. You can edit your comments for a limited time and delete them at any time; when a comment is reported, a snapshot of its text is kept for moderation review.
5. What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not show third-party advertising in the App.
- We do not require an account to use the core calculator.
- We process no payments at all — the App is free of charge, with no subscriptions or in-app purchases.
- We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs — and because the App is open source, you can verify this in the code.
- We do not access your personal charts on our servers unless you turn on sync, and Mahakosh only ever receives anonymized charts you deliberately contribute.
6. Service providers we rely on
We do not sell or share your information for advertising. To operate the App's optional online features, we use a small number of service providers ("processors") who process data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments:
- Supabase — hosts our backend: authentication, the database that stores synced kundalis, Mahakosh contributions, comments, and notifications.
- Sentry — receives the anonymous crash reports described in Section 1 (official builds only).
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple (Push Notification service) — deliver push notifications to your device if you enable them.
- Resend — sends account emails, such as one-time sign-in codes and important moderation notices.
- Open-Meteo (place search) and BigDataCloud (reverse geocoding for "current location") — turn a place name or position into coordinates and a time zone. These lookups send only the place text or coordinates being resolved — never your name, birth details, or identity.
- Google and Apple sign-in — only if you choose to sign in with them, under their own privacy policies.
Each provider receives only what its function requires. If you never create an account, never enable notifications, and use offline place entry, none of your data reaches these providers except the geocoding lookups described above (and crash reports, if an official build crashes).
7. How long we keep data
- On-device data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App — we never hold it.
- Synced kundalis are kept while sync is on for them; turning sync off or deleting the kundali removes the synced copy, and deleting your account removes all of them.
- Account data (email, sign-in identifiers, push tokens) is kept while your account exists and deleted with it.
- Mahakosh contributions are kept, anonymized, while contributed; you can withdraw a chart at any time in the App.
- Comments remain until you delete them; snapshots of reported comments are kept only as long as moderation review requires.
- Crash reports are retained by our error-reporting service for a limited period (typically 90 days) and then deleted automatically.
We may retain limited information longer where required by law, or in anonymized form that no longer identifies you.
8. Where data is processed
Our service providers may store and process data on servers located outside India. Where they do, the data remains protected by this policy, our agreements with those providers, and applicable law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA). Data of users outside India is likewise processed on these providers' infrastructure.
9. Security
Your on-device data is protected with encryption, and data in transit for optional account/sync features is protected using industry-standard secure connections. No method of storage or transmission is ever completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keeping your device and its screen lock secure is an important part of protecting your data.
10. Children
Kaal Jyoti is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information through an optional feature, please contact us so we can address it.
11. Your choices & rights
You are in control of your data:
- Local data: delete individual kundalis in the App, or uninstall the App to remove local data from your device.
- Sync: turn sync off for any kundali, and request deletion of synced copies.
- Account: delete your account and its data yourself, directly in the App (Menu → Delete account) — see our account & data deletion page for exactly what gets removed.
- Mahakosh: withdraw a chart you contributed, at any time, in the App.
- Consent: every online feature is opt-in, and you can withdraw consent at any point — turn off sync, revoke notification permission, or stop contributing to Mahakosh — without losing access to the offline calculator.
Subject to applicable law (including India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to nominate a person to exercise your rights, and to complain to the Data Protection Board of India if you believe your request was not properly handled. To make a request, contact us at the address below — we will respond within the timelines prescribed by applicable law.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
